The Senior Band is comprised of church members who commenced participating in their teenage years. Consisting of brass instruments and percussion, a complete ensemble performs at Sunday services, in nursing homes and other special events throughout the year. They are lead by a Bandmaster who selects the music, trains the group during their weekly rehearsal and arranges engagements for the Band. The current Bandmaster is Mr. Robert Taylor. The music played includes a wide variety of selections that is pleasing to all ages, from contemporary to the classics. |
As stated in the Orders and Regulations for Bands & Songster Brigades, it is the bands duty ‘to proclaim the Army’s message: salvation of souls’.
A Salvation Army bandsman proclaims that message through the medium of music. The venue may be a Salvation Army church service, a hospital, a park, a nursing home or a mall, the aim of the band remains the same – to praise and Glorify God through music, to draw individuals into a closer relationship with Him.
Commitment is a necessary prerequisite not only to the Band but also to the Lord as both go hand in hand. To be an effective ministry, the bandsman must experience a personal relationship with Christ.
“I have not much to give thee, Lord,
For that great love which made thee mine:
I have not much to give thee, Lord,
But all I have is Thine.
Songwriter Richard Slater reminds us that our talents are given of God. Using these talents to reach others and bring them into His fold is something that the bandsmen of Winterberry Heights consider it a privilege to do. We praise God for the universal language of music.
